8 sleeps till the Christmas Fair!

8 sleeps till the Christmas Fair! 😃

Thank you so much for all your generous donations for the tombolas 👍

Raffle tickets should be with you all now – cash/cheques and stubs (and any unused) into the FAB boxes by end of the day on Thursday 6th December, or return at the fair please. 💲

We’ve had a look at the sign up sheets for KS1 classes – some of the classes have smashed it with getting all slots filled…some still have more slots to be filled. If you can fit an hour in to help run a stall, please sign up. We don’t want to have to cancel stalls. 🎉

We’re still looking for adults to help with candyfloss stall, set up on Friday evening or Saturday morning and clearing away and can fit in more Year 5/6 children on stalls.

If you want to get involved, let us know at volunteers@friendatbalfour.org

Whitehawk Foodbank “12 Days of Christmas” collection

We are delighted to announce that we will be supporting the Whitehawk Foodbank’s Christmas Donation campaign again this year.
The foodbank provides essential support to families all over the Brighton area and our generosity is especially welcome in the run up to Christmas.

This year, the Foodbank are collecting items from 12 categories:

We’re asking for the children to bring in an item from this list on any day between Monday 3rd December and Friday 7th December.
They should deposit it in the foodbank crates at KS1 or KS2 offices. The items will be collected and delivered to the Foodbank by the school.
Hope you can support this!

Fireworks Update

Totting up the money we reckon we possibly may have just broken even or made a slight profit (we are still waiting to finalise some expense totals)… but that is awesome considering the weather conditions we all had to endure but at the same time disappointing that the weather wrecked one our of major fundraising events – but at least we don’t think we lost money! There’s too many ‘buts’ in that sentence – but oh – well it’s been a long few days!!

I’m still being asked about how to give us some money… and I can’t fathom out why Paypal won’t accept payments – so if anyone wants to make a donation online then you can pay donations directly into our bank account… obviously this is completely voluntary and you’re own choice (and we are not begging) you can also pop cash or cheques into a FAB box. Please reference any donations as ‘donations’ so we can account for them – you can reference it as something funny if you want – maybe we’ll give a free drink to the best reference!?! I also swear that this is the FAB Bank Account details and not my personal one!!

Bank Account Details
HSBC Account Name: Friends At Balfour
Sort Code: 40-14-01
Account Number: 41501615
Reference: ‘Donation’ or something funny!

Cheers!

Paypal.me for Donations to FAB

Since last night and the truly biblical weather conditions we faced… we’ve had a number of people asking how they can make donations to FAB… We always gratefully accept donations into any FAB box throughout the year and if you want to pay us online then via Paypal is the simplest option. You can click on the link below and it should be pretty simple. Cheers everyone – we’re all feeling much loved this morning!! paypal.me/FriendsAtBalfour

Fireworks – Desperado plea!!

We need 11 more Marshall’s to help at Firework Night (10th November) or else we will have to cancel the event for H&S reasons!!!

… but obviously we don’t want to have to cancel it or else we will still have to pay for the fireworks and FAB will start the year on a deficit!!

What does it involve?
• Being at the event from 4.30 to 7pm – 4.30pm is when we give the Marshal briefing!
• Wearing a hi viz tabbard
• Basically 6-8 Marshall’s need to be outside of the field by the pool, on the path up to Varndean school and basically making sure no-one goes near the firing zone (especially when the display is on) – The people we have so far can cover these points if necessary.
• The other 18 Marshall’s basically mill around on the field and deal with lost children, taking injuries to St John’s ambulance, and minor things like that… however in the case of an emergency (and worst case scenario is evacuating everyone from the field) then all Marshall’s are expected to help direct people out of the area and to a safe space!

So basically being a Marshall is not something you can do if you are the sole adult with kids in tow… but if both parents/or two adults are are going to the fireworks with kids then one could be a Marshall and enjoy the event with their family – you may need to help a lost child or give someone some help… but most of the time you can enjoy the event with your family. It would only be in the case of an extreme emergency (which in 20/30 years has never happened) that you would be expected to help evacuate the area and leave your kids in the care of the other person you came with.

We’re happy to offer free family entry to anyone who wants to Marshall at the event!

If you could help that would be awesome – please email balfourfabvolunteers@gmail.com with ‘Marshall’ in the subject line.
